Soldiers Organized Services (SOS) Might Shut Down

Once again there have been calls for all hands to man the Euro battle stations as SO€s – Save our Eurozones – have been broadcasted, with apparently only 6 weeks to save the Euro. Saving it isn’t easy, however: what should fiscal union (or political union) or any other solution look like?. Greece defaulting and leaving the Eurozone could be disasterous: despite the popularity of the term “zombie”, the solution isn’t as easy as a headshot. With Brussels increasingly herding problems rather than solving them and the Franco-German couple nowhere to be seen, perhaps we should all add our voice to the debate, and demand action. Or at least some more honesty.

In other news, it’s bingo time again, as Barroso will be giving his “State of the Union” address to the European Parliament on Wednesday. Perhaps when he’s demanding more solidarity he can explain how communautaire his own College of Commissioners is, or the true scope of the EU’s energy efficiency ambitions.

On the world stage, Europe’s diplomacy is being put to the test again. Despite the potential, the Palestinian application to the UN for membership and statehood has become a paradox for Europe: should we support it? The EU is facing its own application and border issues with the failure to admit Romania and Bulgaria to the Schengen Zone again based on concerns over corruption and their justice and policing systems.

There has also been debate over transparency and government: can we ever have too much transparency? Or should we place some value in the more pleasant face of government – such as Denmark’s branding for its Council presidency? But perhaps there are some improvements we can all agree on…
